Camerata Deià is formed by a group of musicians that met at the Adriatic Chamber Music Festival and the "El Sonido Real" Festival at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
After the ensemble was invited several times to participate in the Deia International Music Festival in Mallorca, Spain, the members of the group thought about the possibility of forming and ensemble in residence at the Deia Festival. The original idea was to create a flexible group that would allow its members to perform Chamber Music in all its different formations. It is also the goal of the ensemble to perform as a Chamber Orchestra with the incorporation of local profesional musicians and focus on the Concerto repertoire for solo instrument and Orchestra. Camerata Deia will offer two or three at the Deia International Music Festival every year in adittion to touring the Balearic Islands with performances in several other cities.
In March 2004 Camerata Deia made its debut in Germany participating in the Nordhorn Chamber Music Series and in Sweden at the Katrineholm Music Series. In 2003 the ensemble also offered several concerts in California, USA performing piano quartets by Mahler, Mozart Turina and Balaz. Other projects include performances during the month of August at the Adriatic Chamber Music Festival in Bonefro-Termoli, Italy.
During the 2004 edition of the Deia Festival Camerata Deia performed its first concerts as a Chamber Orchestra with two concerts dedicated to the Music of Vivaldi including Vivaldi double concerto for two celli and the four Seasons.
Next season(2005) the ensemble has been invited to tour Denmark and participate in Several festivals in Cuba, Brasil and back in Sweden and Italy with two different programs: one dedicated to the string quintets of Mozart and Brahms and the piano sextet by Brambach and other dedicated to Spanish composers with music by Falla, Turina, Granados and Cassado.
